Selasphorus Hummingbird (Selasphorus sp.)
Tijuana River OSP Generally speaking, a Selasphorus hummingbird encountered from late March through April, and again from late September on, will most likely be a Rufous. A Selasphorus encountered from late June to mid July will most likely be an Allen's. A female-type any other time of year is pot luck... This may change as the sedentarius race of Allen's appears to be colonizing southward!
